Having an easy cheesy dairy free sauce recipe at hand is a great way to adapt old family favourites into plant-based versions. Ideal for vegetable or pasta bakes, cheesy toasty sandwiches or even pizza. And it even freezes, making it perfect for homemade arancini and other hot vegan cheese treats.
Ingredients
- 1 cup potato, boiled and riced or mashed – approx 200g
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1 cup fermented soy sour cream
- 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp cup tapioca starch
- 1/2 cup oat or soy milk
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp sea salt

This easy cheesy dairy free sauce is so simple to make. Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and pour into a pot. Stir over a medium heat until the cheesy sauce is thick and glossy.
This sauce thickens as it cool, ideal for freezing in spheres for arancini fillings. For a pouring sauce, thin with extra plant-based milk, taste and re-season if needed.

The sauce is soy based , you could try a soy free sour cream, but remember to taste and adjust if needed.
